Hey.
Hello.
Good to see you.
Just wanted to provide a few updates this week of what's happening in the GA.
We have a few items coming up, I think the most interesting of which will be the plenary on Wednesday.
But before that, this morning, there's an informal meeting of the general committee, which is happening in the Economic and Social Council this morning, which started at 10:00.
Also this morning, the informal consultation on the strengthening of the Economic and Social Council and on the high-level political forum on sustainable development and follow up to the review of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development at the global level kicked off in conference room one, and that will continue at 3:00 P.M.
And then also at 3:00 P.M.
In the Ecosoc chamber, there'll be a high-level panel on the importance of complying with the VIS principles for ombudsman institutions to strengthen the institution's independence and autonomy, to create an enabling environment to perform their mandates nationally and internationally.
Tomorrow, there will be informal consultations on the progress Declaration on the high level meeting on improving global road safety that will take place in the economic and social chamber at 10:00 A.M.
Also at 10:00 A.M.
And at 3:00 P.M.
There will be the continued informal meetings on the intergovernmental negotiations, on the equitable representation on an increase in the membership of the Security Council.
On Wednesday at 10:00 A.M.
There's the 82nd plenary meeting in the General Assembly Hall, and there are a number of items on the agenda and actions on draft resolutions and decisions.
I won't go into all of them here, but a few of the items include the draft resolution on the fourth Industrial Development decade for Africa, action on the draft resolution on the promotion of inter religious and intercultural dialogue, understanding and cooperation for peace, draft resolution on looking at the strengthening of regional cooperation and economic integration, to ensure sustainable development in the Central Asia region, and one that colleagues that the press has been quite interested in is also the action on the draft resolution on the report of the International Court of Justice, and many of you will note that that also included the advisory opinion on climate change and governments responsibilities for that.
And so there's a number of other items happening, draft resolutions and decisions that will be action will be taken, and that's happening on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M.
On Thursday at 10:00 A.M.
There's a meeting of an interactive dialogue of the Assembly on commodity markets, Economic and Social Council chamber, that's happening on Thursday.
And on Friday at ten and 3:00 P.M.
As in the EcoSox chamber, they will begin the informal consultations on the political Declaration on sea level rise.
Next week, because of the holidays here, there are no informal or formal meetings Monday through Wednesday.
So that is the look ahead for this week.
Questions, concerns? Yes.
Hi, Desi.
I see you there online.
I haven't seen you in a while.
Yes, please.
Thank you.
Update anything we need to know at this point.
We have not received any new nominations, so I can tell you that since the additional nomination last week, we have not received any nominations.
You all may be aware, and I can share the link with you that on 13 May, the PGA did send a letter to member states just updating them that in line with the resolution and with her commitment to transparency and inclusion, that there will be another interactive dialogue or additional interactive dialogues should more candidates come forward.
And also in her very regular communication with the president of the Security Council, she also reiterated the need for this interactive dialogue to take place before the Security Council then begins its deliberations on candidates, which are expected to begin roughly in July.
So she did share that communication with member states, and, you know, encouraging the Security Council without prejudice to their own modalities and how they take up candidates.
But that is also available on our website, that letter dated 13 May.
Okay.
Questions? No questions online? No.
All right, then.
Yes, I have quick questions.
Oh, sorry.
I didn't see.
Yes, please go ahead.
On Bangladesh.
Yes.
On Bangladesh.
According to the UN fact finding missions report, Sheksina ed government killed 1,400 students and common people during July uprising in 2024.
The victim's family are waiting to seek justice.
A court has convicted former Prime Minister Sheikina.
Many of other accused involved in the same crime are residing in different countries around the world, especially in the USA, UK, India, and Thailand.
Will the UN request that the countries sheltering these criminals extradate them back to Bangladesh to ensure justice? Requesting extradition of people from countries is not the role of the PGA's office.
So that question might be better raised with other UN entities or with the countries themselves.
But questions of extradition for this case would have to be handled either bilaterally between the countries or through other UN bodies.
That is not something that the Office of the President of the General Assembly would raise.
I hope that helps.
Okay.
Great.
Thank you.
